At first Ashampoo Burning Studio 2008 will tries automatically to fetch the information which are stored on the audio CD directly from the Internet. Ashampoo Burning Studio 2008 connects to the database from freedb.org. The service is completely free and anonymous, meaning that you don't have to register in any way.

Why should you use this feature?

In the days before PC's when the compact disc standard was created the designers unfortunately failed to make any provision for storing title, artist and other information. This is a pity, since the digital CD medium is theoretically perfect for storing all sorts of interesting additional data together with the music.

freedb.org is one of the solutions to this problem. It is a online database system (like others) that stores all the information missing on CDs - mainly the names of the albums, tracks and artists.

Note: If you are not currently connected to the internet one of two things will happen:

Ashampoo Burning Studio 2008 will try to fetch the information if they are available.

It might failed due to several reasons: Maybe the audio CD you want to read is too old or currently not listed in the database or you are extracting audio files from a CD which has no readable information stored, e.g. a sampler or mix CD from a friend.

Select Tracks...

Now you can select the tracks you want to read from the audio CD. You can enter individual track by clicking Rename. You can select each individual track by placing a mark in the appropriate check box on the left hand.

By default all tracks are selected. If you click on Select None none of the tracks will be read from the CD which in fact does not really make any sense. Clicking on Next > brings you to program screen where you can select the output format and addional settings. Clicking on < Back brings you to you previous screen where you can  select the source.
